Asia's private equity market has grown rapidly over the past decade with over US$300 billion of capital raised through 2010 and over US$200 billion deployed in traditional growth capital and buy-out situations throughout the region.
Of the US$200 billion in capital deployed, it is estimated that approximately one half of that has been returned to investors to date -- about one quarter (US$50 billion) in the form of principal and another quarter (US$50 billion) in the form of capital gains. Accordingly, there remains approximately US$150 billion worth of un-exited private equity investments in the Asia region. This equates to about 5,000 individual positions held by private equity/VC firms, hedge funds, investment banks, sovereign wealth funds, and family / corporate offices.
While a large portion of these 5,000 un-exited positions will be held indefinitely as investors seek to maximize value, a significant portion will be divested as investors seek liquidity to return capital their stakeholders.
It is on this large untapped market that NewQuest will focus. NewQuest will help investors monetize their existing positions and partner with company management to assist them in achieving their operational and strategic objectives - creating value for all stakeholders.
The NewQuest team has a unique set of skills to execute this strategy having managed over 75 direct secondary positions - exiting about half of those situations.
The NewQuest team is comprised of professionals who have been working together for ten years making, managing, and divesting private equity investments across Asia.
NewQuest manages a diversified portfolio of private equity investments across the Asia-Pacific Region. Portfolio companies operate in a wide range of sectors - clean energy, TMT, financial services, healthcare, consumer, industrials, and logistics.
